Hi, I'm Amelia! I am a third-year university student at the University of Leeds studying English and History. I start my teacher training in September; however, I have been tutoring for almost 5 years now. I pride myself on being approachable and friendly towards my students. Tutoring can be intimidating, so building a happy and comfortable learning environment is my priority. I have seen immense success in my students in the past, with most advancing beyond their initial goals, come exam season. When not tutoring, I enjoy travelling, cooking, reading and trying new things! I even spent a summer abroad working as a camp counsellor in America. What I cover; English Language GCSE- AQA CRASH COURSE EXAM PREP English Literature GCSE & A-Level- History GCSE History A-level My Academic qualifications- A-level in English Literature, History and Biology with grades ranging A-A*. 11 GCSE qualifications with grades ranging 8-9. Hi! I am a first-year undergraduate student studying Applied Medical Sciences at UCL. I studied the IB curriculum at a boarding school, as previously I lived in Canada for 5 years. Living in Canada I played a lot of winter sports and due to this, I love skiing and figure skating. However, since I am living in London I now play volleyball and tennis professionally. I am half Japanese (my mom's side) and half French (my dad's side), therefore, I speak English, Japanese and French fluently but I was born in London. I have lived not only in Canada and the UK but Japan as well! I love all things Math and Biology and I cannot wait to get to know you!

How do I choose the correct 11+ tutor for my child?

What is the 11+ exam?

The 11+ exam is an optional exam that is usually taken in the final year of primary school.

Your child will need to take the exam if you want them to attend a grammar school or a selective secondary school. Generally, children who sit the 11+ exam are academically gifted and get above average results.

What does the 11+ exam consist of?

The exam your child will take will depend on the school you are applying for. There are four different courses that can be covered:

  • Verbal Reasoning – requires good vocabulary, basic maths and/or problem-solving
  • Non-verbal Reasoning - requires abstract problem-solving type questions using shapes and patterns, and is not related to English or language skills
  • English - requires an understanding of grammar and comprehension
  • Maths - requires the use of concepts taught in Key Stage 2

When should you start 11+ exam revision?

Most of the course content will have been taught in Key Stage 2. If your child has confidently soared through everything, then a few months of revision and plenty of practice can be enough. If there are any problem areas it’s wise to start at least one year in advance.

What should I revise for the 11+ exam?

Revision strategies are tailored to the different exam courses as follows:

  • Verbal Reasoning: Practice spelling quizzes and crosswords across the Key Stage 2 English course content. Also look for practice material that’s specific to the types of questions your area will include
  • Non-verbal Reasoning: Enhance your child’s spatial awareness through 3D jigsaw puzzles, model-making kits, brain training games and Sudoku
  • English: Reading cements grammar and enhances vocabulary. The exam will usually have an essay question so your child should practice writing short stories within a time limit
  • Maths: Make sure your child is familiar with all of the concepts taught during Key Stage 2 and they know their times tables inside out

Are there 11+ exam online course books available?

You can order the books online and your tutor can advise you on which are the most appropriate. They can also provide a reading list that helps with the English component and verbal reasoning.

The benefits of an 11+ exam online tutor

An online tutor saves on travel time and there are no geographical limitations, meaning more options when it comes to finding the best fit for your child.

We offer a free trial lesson so you can see for yourself just how beneficial our process is to your child. Once they start, you’ll receive regular updates on their progress.

With the right tutor, your child will enjoy the revision process and will have the best possible chance of achieving a place at their dream school.

Answering student's questions about 11+ level online lessons

How affordable is private 11+ tuition?

The cost of private 11+ tuition can be as low as £21.99. The price of each individual lesson is dependent on how long your child would like tuition support and how many lessons they take per week. The more they learn, the lower the price of each lesson! Why not book a free trial session for you and your child to see how we can help?

What levels can my child get tuition for?

We can help your child support with private 11+ tutoring as well as offering tuition for 11 levels. Choose from a whole host of subjects across the spectrum of school levels including 11+. Your child isn't tied into one subject or level with GoStudent. Your child may need support with 11+ at the moment but as these needs change we can also offer tuition across different levels.

How can your child benefit from 11+ tuition?

The main reason that parents often start to look for a 11+ tutor is to improve their child’s academic performance. It’s needless to say that tutoring will prepare your child for important exams and tests and address specific problem areas that they might have in a particular subject. Your child’s grades and understanding of the subject will improve when working with a tutor but there are also other benefits you might consider when deciding whether to opt for private 11+ tutoring. Tutoring encourages self-directed learning. This means that your child will learn to take the initiative in their schoolwork, with the result that they will feel less overwhelmed or frustrated with school and more in control of their own learning. They will also learn study skills that will help them in life when it comes to university and beyond. Whether it’s learning to overcome obstacles in their studies, losing the fear of asking questions or even working on their social skills.
