I am a retired teacher who loves teaching. Now I work a four day week tutoring online, helping students understand their course and prepare for the exams. It is encouraging to hear how my students get on and there is a satisfaction in knowing that I have helped them experience exam success. Working Monday to Thursday I have a timetable which I fit my students into. This makes me reliable which is an important factor in choosing a tutor. My sessions are usually early afternoon (2pm on) to early evening (7 or 8pm). To accommodate home schoolers I do offer Wednesday mornings (10am, 11am or 12pm) so if you are studying at home and would like an early session I offer Weds. SUBJECTS COVERED I cover Key Stage 3 and Broad General Education Science At GCSE I cover GCSE Biology GCSE Chemistry Dual Award Science/Trilogy (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) N4 & N5 Biology and Chemistry Within the Scottish system I am experienced with the SQA B.Sc. Levels & subjects I teach: Junior Cert: Math and Science (Ordinary and Higher level) Biology only A-Levels: Biology only. GCSE: Science,Biology and Maths Exam Board experience: Irish Exam Boards. A-Levels GCSE SEND(Special Education Needs and Disability) experience: Children with autism and students that may have trouble focusing on tasks for any length of time without being easily distracted. Preferred student age group: All age groups. My name is Marian, I am a 6th-year medical student with a solid foundation in science. I am competent at tutoring pupils in the Irish educational system up to the Leaving Certificate. As a tutor, I've always felt driven to go above and beyond the curriculum's standards to make sure the student thoroughly understands the material. In order to assist the students, I want to first earn their trust by showing them that I have their best interests at heart. I then want to work really hard with them, urge them to give their all, and ensure that they remain motivated throughout. In my classes, I make sure that the lesson is first clearly explained to the students, beginning with the basics and making sure they understand it. From there, I build on that knowledge but most importantly, a foundation should be built. Finally, I give the student an opportunity to explain back to me and switch roles, pretending to be the teacher and teaching me what was learned. The pupils will be offered enjoyable quizzes or games related to the topics taught to help them relax and stop feeling like learning something new is a chore in order to better reinforce the knowledge they have already acquired. The subjects won't be covered only once. It will be explained in class and then summarized at the end. The first few minutes of the following lesson will be used to review what was previously taught. The third time will follow a few weeks later to help with memory recall. There will also be constant reference to earlier lessons if the topics are connected. I have a thorough understanding of the Irish leaving certificate curriculum, not just because I went through it myself, but also because of my experience tutoring students of all ages, particularly junior and leaving certificate students for the past four years. As a result, I have knowledge of the subjects and crucial exam tips, specifically by going over past exam papers with students. Any kid I have taught has experienced a significant increase in their grades from the beginning of the year to the end. I anticipate at least a two-grade improvement for every student who works with me. whenever I provide tests. To give students a realistic rating, I do my best to grade them in accordance with the standards of the junior/leaving certificate. Throughout the classes, these marking criteria will be applied to identify improvements that are also realistic. Because I am very organized in terms of what is required for the lesson and all the materials that will be utilized, delivering tutoring online has never been an issue for me or my pupils. I make an effort to keep the experience as similar as possible to in-person tuition. I will stay in touch with the parents on a regular basis to address any worries they might have, any observations I might have about the student, and to keep them informed about the classes.

With every session, I aim to keep topics relatable and enjoyable for my students and also to make them understand why this particular topic is relevant to them. As I believe, this understanding is half of the learning journey that they need to make. Currently, I am pursuing my aspiration of a career in medical research. I am studying Pharmacology at the University of Reading which has enforced the importance of always striving to learn; so I encourage my students to embrace learning. Studying the medical field has highlighted the importance of teaching and learning: in particular explaining concepts in a manner that will enable a deeper understanding. As an individual who enjoys a problem solving challenge, of which I have demonstrated during my many voluntary pursuits, including at a school and at a hospital, I have communicated with a wide range of individuals. So, in establishing a student's needs, I understand the issues they are facing and find solutions to their problems. Guiding a student through revision is no easy task as no student learns in the same format. Presenting the student with ideas and having them put these into practice is what I aim for to prepare them for exams. Education: Currently studying my second year of undergraduate Pharmacology at the University of Reading. Completed and taken part in an employment and development award alongside my degree. Additional qualifications: Piano performance grade 8 with merit Passed music theory grade 5

My name is Giada, an Italian expatriate in the UK for 7 years. I hold a degree in Forensic Science. My passion for learning fuels a desire to share knowledge, embodying a blend of cultural richness and scientific curiosity. I embrace challenges with a positive mindset, making every experience an opportunity for growth. I love adopting different teaching styles according to the students and their specific needs. I teach various subjecs such as Biology, Chemistry and Italian to students from the ages of 10 to 25+. Beyond tutoring, I enjoy spending my time practising yoga, reading books and volunteering. I have struggled with anxiety and have been always a bit of a perfectionist, therefore I have personal experience with how it feels to want to achieve the best one can, and I try to give some help and advice to students from this point of view as well. I have helped students with ADHD and dyslexia achieve great results in their university exams and coursework, therefore I have an awareness of how these conditions affect each individual differently and how to try and tweak my teaching style accordingly. I am a graduate of Abertay University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Sciences in 2021, achieving a 1st class degree. Throughout my four-year course, I demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and was recognised with prizes for outstanding achievements in both biology and chemistry-related subjects. My Biology knowledge is strong across all exam boards and I have a particular interest in Genetics and Molecular Biology. During my time at Abertay University, I served as the Class Representative for two consecutive years, actively contributing to the academic community and fostering communication between students and faculty. This experience honed my leadership and organizational skills. Engaging in the Research Volunteer Scheme (of a chemistry-based project) provided me with invaluable practical experience in applying the research process. This training enhanced my understanding of the scientific method and its application in real-world scenarios. As an Online Peer Mentor, I supported new students on their academic journey, demonstrating my dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. In my dissertation, I delved into the intricate realm of mRNA and miRNA, showcasing my in-depth knowledge of these molecules alongside DNA in both general biology and forensic biology. This research experience not only expanded my understanding of molecular biology but also sharpened my analytical and investigative skills. Overall, my academic journey at Abertay University has equipped me with a solid foundation in forensic sciences, complemented by hands-on research experience and a commitment to academic and peer support. I am eager to apply this wealth of knowledge and skills in teaching younger generations. I have been working in industry ever since. I possess academic as well as professional application of biology and chemistry knowledge. I am Italian, therefore I can offer Italian lessons to English speaking students. My experience in tutoring has been mostly with my peers (ages 18-22), however, I have also gained experience with children from ages of 8 to 17.

My name is Abdurrehman and I am a Business student at the University of Salford. My friends describe me as hardworking, dedicated and focussed. Business and Economics has a huge importance in my life, not only because of its link to my career, but because of an interest I have in me. Having attained AAB in my A Levels and 8s and 7s in GCSEs, I have developed from an outstanding student to an incredible tutor. In high school my Maths teachers always applauded my excellent problem solving and maths skills as I acheived an 8 in GCSE, and I am looking forward to sharing these tips with students of my own. I enjoy teaching science because, apart from being great at it in my GCSEs, i like how vast the subjects are and how ever evolving they are. From my own journey, there has been many instances where I have taught myself content because the way the teacher taught me I just didn't understand. This made me an independent learner and encouraged me to reach my highest potential - not to mention all the amazing tips and tricks I discovered and am excited to pass on to my students too. I have a vast experience of teaching, from volunteering experiences to jobs in different settings with tutoring - which helped me fine tune my teaching skills and made me really adaptable to different teaching styles. As a young tutor, the age gap between me and my students will be relatively small and will allow me to understand them much better, as well as make the lessons more fun and engaging as I know how to meet their needs. The whole setup at GoStudent is fantastic. Great online software which makes everything so easy from booking to the actual lessons. Then there’s our tutor, Zac. He’s exceptional beyond anything we could have hoped for in a teacher. Fun, enthusiastic, super smart and an excellent role model for the children he teaches. Our sone has gone from struggling to a confidence I’ve never seen in him before when it comes to maths. Thank you!

All you need to know about tutoring in chemistry

Chemistry tutoring: geared towards individual learning goals

It’s not surprising that many students struggle with chemistry. It’s a complex subject with an intense curriculum, and teachers don’t always have the time to answer questions, repeat information or go into in-depth explanations. This can result in students falling behind in their work, with parents often unable to help.

GoStudent’s chemistry tutors offer one-to-one lessons tailored to your child’s needs and addressing any areas that they may have difficulty with. This leads to improved understanding, which builds confidence and leads to better exam results.

The advantages of studying chemistry

Chemistry is a branch of natural science that studies the properties of matter, the changes they undergo and the natural laws that describe these changes.

The better you understand chemistry, the better you can understand everyday processes around you – for example, what happens to food when we cook it, or how do storms and thunderstorms develop?

Chemists observe and research these constantly-occurring processes to draw insights that lead to new knowledge and technologies.

Chemistry can open doors to many careers, depending on specialisation. Some examples are:

  • Food chemist
  • Biochemistry
  • Testing of emission devices
  • Environmental protection
  • Teaching at a school or university
  • Working in a research institute
  • Corporate work in areas such as public relations, production and marketing
  • Process engineering

What topics can be covered in online chemistry classes with a qualified tutor?

Chemistry lessons start in primary school as part of the general science curriculum. In secondary school, more specific topics are covered including:

  • The states of matter
  • The periodic table of the elements
  • Organic and inorganic chemistry
  • Acids and bases
  • Atoms, molecules and compounds
  • Reaction equations
  • The solubility of substances
  • Separation processes
  • Gases and noble gases
  • Metals and semimetals

We can find the right chemistry tutor for your child, no matter what topics they need help with.

Chemistry homework help

It can be difficult for your child to do their homework on their own if they have gaps in their knowledge or understanding. Our qualified chemistry tutors can help with any difficulties and get them back on track with their school work.

Chemistry tutoring for exams and chemistry revision

As chemistry is not one of the easier school subjects, exam time can be stressful. Our chemistry tutors can help prepare your child by practicing exam-related tasks with them and teaching efficient learning strategies.

A chemistry tutor will also ensure your child’s learning stays on schedule, so they can go into their exams feeling as prepared as possible.

This is how practical Chemistry tutoring works at GoStudent

Book a free trial lesson with GoStudent today. You will be matched with a chemistry tutor, who will assess what areas your child needs help with. They can then work out an individual learning plan tailored to their needs.
