I am a certified TESOL teacher who studied English at college, and law and business studies at university. I spent three years teaching English in Tokyo, Japan - first for a language school and then in business. Since returning to the UK, I have taught for many different companies and also as a private home tutor. I'm used to teaching adults and children of all ages and am accustomed to working towards examinations. As a tutor, it's important that my student feels comfortable and has confidence in my abilities to help them progress so I have a relaxed manner when teaching but with an eye on reaching targets. So we will look at the areas where you need help, look at your existing approach to learning and work out strategies to get you where you need to be. I enjoy writing and sometimes write content for websites. I'm also great at watching tennis - not so good at playing though. I spent lockdown doing a lot of baking with friends online and caught up on watching some of the films that I'd always been meaning to watch. Now that the world is opening up again, I'm keen to do some travelling and hopefully some watersports - two other passions of mine. I look forward to meeting you, to teaching you and to helping you! Hello! I’m Kyrie Zalyn, an educator with a strong foundation in Psychology and over five years of teaching experience for both English and Math. What drives me as a teacher is my passion for helping students realize their full potential—academically and personally. My approach blends structure with creativity, making learning both meaningful and enjoyable. With a background in psychology, I understand how students think, learn, and stay motivated. I use that knowledge to design lessons that are engaging, interactive, and tailored to each learner’s pace and personality. Whether it’s refining communication skills or solving complex equations, I aim to create a space where students feel confident, curious, and capable. Beyond teaching, I’m a professional chess master and a language enthusiast—constantly learning, just like my students. I believe that the best classrooms are built on connection, encouragement, and growth, and I strive to bring that energy into every session. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. I’m also a certified TEFL teacher with over five years of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning levels. In addition to teaching, I’ve led teams as a chess athlete and coach with a title of "Woman National Master" in the field of chess. Also, I continue to grow by exploring new languages and learning strategies. I believe in creating a classroom where students feel supported, understood, and inspired to reach their goals—one lesson at a time.

We home educate our 2 boys and Go Student have really helped us to split our time between them. Whilst our eldest (6) is having his lesson online I can focus my attention on our youngest (5) and ensure that both are getting the one to one time they need but also ensuring that they are both learning and progressing with their education. Our son's tutor Justin Wood is enthusiastic, engaging and patient. He gives our son confidence and time to answer questions and uses resources which incorporate some of our son's interests such as trains and planes. When our son is struggling with an answer, Justin encourages him to have a go and use his 'train brain' to gee him on. Our son finds this hilarious and they make train sounds to help boost our son's enthusiasm which in turn helps him engage and enjoy the lesson. Justin makes the lessons fun and interesting. We've noticed a big change in our son's confidence since he's been learning with Justin and he looks forward to his Maths and English lessons. His spelling and reading has significantly improved and his maths skills are growing by the day. Justin keeps us updated with our son's progress and we talk about areas that we can focus on to help him improve further. Justin is flexible and accommodating and it's lovely to hear our son say how much he enjoys his lessons with him.

How online English tuition can benefit you

English tutoring to improve grades and self-confidence

Studying English at school includes technical aspects of the language such as grammar and vocabulary, and English literature focuses on text analysis and creative writing.

English-related skills such as reading and writing are vital throughout school, regardless of the subject matter. Learning how to communicate your thoughts clearly boosts self-confidence, improves vocabulary and leads to better exam results.

GoStudent English tutors offer one-to-one lessons tailored to your child’s needs, helping them understand where their weaknesses are in their written work and working with them to improve their writing style.

The advantages of studying English

English is an essential subject in the national curriculum. All students are required to pass English exams at primary school and English makes up one of the three core GCSE subjects in secondary school.

Studying for an English and Literature A-level or an undergraduate or master's degree can be hugely rewarding. Not only will you learn a great deal about the language, you will also be introduced to radically different ways of understanding and explaining the world.

An English degree can open the door to a wide range of career opportunities in fields such as teaching, editing, journalism and law. There is also a growing market for teaching English as a second language either at home or overseas, where the demand might be higher.

English tuition at primary school

English tuition at primary school is an excellent way to prepare for the future. Studying reading and writing helps with English language skills in general, and learning about different authors and their works may very well ignite a passion for reading in your child, laying the foundation for study at a higher level.

English exam preparation and English revision classes

GCSE exams are the qualifications students take at the age of 16. GCSE English provides a solid foundation for studying humanities courses at a higher level, and skills taught include writing essays, reading comprehension and text analysis.

If your child choose to continue to study English Language and Literature at A-level, it's extremely important for them to achieve a solid GCSE foundation.

English tutors can provide:

  • Exam technique training
  • Essay writing practice
  • Speaking, listening and vocabulary development

Working with an English tutor on a one-to-one basis boosts confidence and passion for the subject, too.

Answering student's questions about online English lessons

As well as English, does GoStudent offer private tuition in other subjects?

GoStudent can help give your child support with private English tuition as well as offering tuition for 40+ subjects. Select from a range of subjects including Chemistry, Physics, Spanish. Your child isn't tied into one subject with GoStudent. Maybe your child needs support with English now but as their needs change we can also offer tuition across different subjects.

What are the benefits of private English tutoring for your child?

There are many reasons why parents decide to hire a private English tutor. Some parents fear that they don’t have the knowledge to help their children with their English homework or exam preparation. Others might not have the time to sit with children and work through homework. Our English tutors can take away this stress by helping your child consolidate what they have been learning in school, working through their homework with them and building their confidence ahead of their exams. You can rest easy knowing that our tutors are experts in English and have the knowledge and teaching abilities to not only spark your child’s interest in the subject but also foster a lifelong love of learning. Can my child take private English tuition online?

With GoStudent your child can get private tuition online from one of our English tutors. Online tuition is a great option for you and your child, meaning you don't have to take your child to a class or cover the cost of a tutor to come to your home. Why not see how private tuition can work for you and your child by booking a free trial lesson.
