Hello! My name is Laura Cain and I am a student at Nottingham University. In my spare time, I enjoy playing classical piano and musical arts. I teach classical piano to students around my neighbourhood. I often indulge in winter sports, both playing and watching. I hope to make a difference in the world one day, one small step at a time. In History, I specify in teaching Communist states, the American Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, Crime and Punishment. I attended Kenilworth School and transferred to Kenilworth Sixth form afterwards. I took English Literature, modern History and Sociology for A levels. I am currently in third year, studying BA Hons Classics and Archaeology at the University of Nottingham.

I am currently studying medicine at university. I have a keen interest in the sciences and am looking to help students build more confidence in their learning. I have recently completed my A levels at a school in London achieving 3 A*s in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths. I also completed a Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) entitled "How might the Limitation of AI affect the Healthcare Delivery in the NHS?", achieving an A*. In my GCSEs I achieved all 9 grades in Maths, English Lit. English Lang., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Chinese (Mandarin), Music, Latin, Further Maths.

I am quite into my sports, football and F1 to be specific. I support Liverpool and Mercedes. I am quite a laid back person and always up for a chat and a good laugh. I mostly learnt in school by getting questions wrong, and solving them with practice questions and the mark scheme.

ABOUT ME I have a deep interest in history, human and physical geography, anthropology, technology, architecture and engineering. I especially enjoy the history and geography of languages and language families. I am a keen traveller, audiophile and technophile, with a love for all kinds of technologies, analogue and digital, new and old. Thanks to COVID I learnt a lot of DIY skills through necessity. My house also has a garden full of fruit trees, so I guess that would make me an amateur gardener by default. I try to keep fit by cycling when possible, but my favourite sport is swimming. TEACHING EXPERIENCE/PREFERENCES The subjects I teach are History, English Literature and Language for GCSE and A-level, as well as EFL/ESL English. I tend to teach students aged 14+, so from Year 9 to Year 13 or older, but I do have a few students younger than this. I use a variety of teaching approaches, ranging from traditional methods of text analysis to modern forms of teaching, such as interactive quizzes, questionnaires and even YouTube videos if they benefit the students learning style. Exam Board Experience: AQA, Edexcel and OCR in the main. WJEC/Eduqas to a lesser extent. Languages:- English: as a first language to advanced level. Turkish: fluent to college level.
