Hi there! Here Yasmin! I love languages, cultures and learning. I am also a passionate cook, botanist and cinemagoer. I have a particular way of teaching. With me, you'll be the star. After a Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpretation and a Master's in Conference Interpreting, I have been learning languages for years now and, in 2019, I decided to pass on to my students the language acquisition techniques that helped me when learning French, Russian, Arabic, Basque and English. Here goes one: make the impossible to surround yourself with a Spanish or Hispanic environment (tutors, friends, relatives, news... > culture will boost your motivation to continue learning). I lived in Valencia, Donostia, Bilbao, Madrid and Huelva but I also lived in Bordeaux, Bergerac and Paris. I started teaching Spanish in the Spanish city of Vitoria (also known as the Basque Siberia) because I wanted to help the immigrants coming every year to start a new life in Spain. I found that the best way to help them was by teaching them Spanish so that they could communicate with others and build a brand-new life. In 2020, I started teaching and tutoring French and Spanish on digital learning platforms. Up until now, I have helped more than 90 people (all ages, students with SEND educational profiles, backgrounds and cultures) reach their goals onsite and online and have been translating, project managing and interpreting for 3 years! I used to teach my juniors in university and have continued to do that after I have graduated. I love biology, especially genetics; an interest which I have pursued by completing an MSc in Molecular Medicine in Sudan. During my Molecular Medicine degree, I developed an interest in cancer, so I applied for- and got accepted into an MSc in Cancer Sciences at the University of Glasgow. This turned out to be one of the first decisions I have ever made, as it gave me a solid foundation upon which I am currently building my academic career. I have won a few awards so far, one of which is ‘Best Research Paper’ award, which was in recognition of my outstanding achievement and command of research by the end of my MSc in Molecular Medicine. I have been awarded a few grants and scholarships and have met former president Barak Obama as part of the programme I had on one of the leadership courses I undertook in the US. Currently, I research the use of artificial intelligence in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of colorectal cancer which will greatly impact the quality of care that patients receive. My hobbies are archery and programming using Python, in addition to graphic design, web design and web development.
