After 20 years of secondary school classroom teaching in English and History, I am branching out into online teaching. I taught in London, at Walthamstow for my probationary year in 1991, and have since taught in South Africa, in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. I run Parkrun, grow and sell organic vegetables, and enjoy wilderness walking. After A Bachelor of Arts in History and English, at Wits University in Johannesburg in 1984, I did a postgraduate Higher Diploma in Education, in English and History. I then taught in London and South Africa for nine years, during which time I qualified with a Bachelor of Education in Applied Linguistics, from Wits University. In 1998, my family and I went to Vancouver, British Columbia, for me to study a Masters Degree in Theology. We returned to SA in 2002. In 2016, I graduated with a PhD in History, at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I am currently enrolled for my TTA TEFL certificate, Level 5, to qualify and teach EFL, from April 2025.

Hi my name is Stuart Smith. I have completed 19 years of successful teaching. I have gained experience of teaching years 7 to 11 Science and several years teaching A levels in Chemistry and Physics. Recently I was an examiner for Cambridge A level Chemistry. I have used my experience to develop a dynamic positive teaching style. Across the academic spectrum students find popular science in the media engaging and I make full use of this. Before coming into teaching I enjoyed many years working in the Shipbuilding Industry. This invaluable experience has enabled me to have knowledge of life outside the classroom and has enabled me to form a more rounded character. This has benefited work as a tutor as well as strengthening my ability as a team player. I have A levels in Biology, Chemistry , Physics and Mathematics. I studied BSc Chemistry at The University of Bristol and went on to study a PGCE in Science at The University of Bristol. Before this, I had a brief stint as a substitute teacher in September 2021, and I also taught for three years at Jose Rizal Institute from 2018 to 2021, teaching Mathematics to both junior and senior high school students. Aside from that, I won different competitions in Mathematics, the recent was as a winning coach for National Olympiad and set to compete in International Olympiad.
