Hi, I’m Chelle, an enthusiastic educator on a mission to transform the way students connect with the English language. I believe that every word holds the power to inspire, communicate, and create. My passion lies in helping students unlock this potential by improving their communication skills and developing a lifelong appreciation for literature and language. From untangling the complexities of grammar to guiding students in crafting powerful narratives, I strive to make every lesson engaging, relevant, and impactful. My teaching philosophy is rooted in innovation, creativity, and a deep commitment to meeting students where they are in their learning journey. At the core of my work is a desire to empower students—giving them the tools and confidence to express themselves authentically and tackle life’s challenges with clarity and courage. For me, teaching is not just about education; it’s about inspiring growth, fostering connection, and igniting a passion for learning that lasts a lifetime. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, which has equipped me with a solid understanding of human behavior, cognitive processes, and emotional well-being. My academic background has been the foundation for my professional journey in both the fields of guidance counseling and education. As a Guidance Counselor, I had the privilege of supporting students' personal, academic, and social development. I facilitated individual and group counseling sessions, working closely with students to address their challenges and develop strategies for resilience and growth. My role also involved collaborating with parents and teachers to create tailored interventions that promoted the holistic development of each student. I am particularly passionate about fostering mental health awareness and empowering young individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. Currently, I apply my skills as an Online ESL Teacher, helping non-native speakers improve their English proficiency. In this role, I develop engaging lesson plans tailored to students' learning needs and goals. I focus on creating a supportive and interactive environment that encourages confidence in speaking, writing, and comprehension. This experience has further enhanced my ability to communicate effectively across cultures, adapt to diverse learning styles, and motivate students to succeed. My dual experience as a counselor and educator has strengthened my commitment to empowering individuals, whether by addressing their emotional and psychological needs or by equipping them with the tools for effective communication. I am dedicated to fostering personal growth and creating positive, meaningful connections in every role I undertake.

After university I worked at a secondary school on a graduate scheme with Step Into Teaching, working as a teaching assistant and running the school library. In this role I worked predominantly with KS3 students on a 1:1 and small-group basis, but I love working with KS4 students and building their knowledge in their subjects. In this role I have worked with SEN and ESL students. Shortly after this I went to Malaga, Spain to work as an au pair. While living with a Spanish family it was my repsonsiblity to teach English to two daughters, ages 11 and 14. I then worked as an English tutor in a secondary school through the National Tutoring Programme. In this role I worked with year 10 and year 11 students, helping them progress in GCSE English Literature and GCSE English Language. I have recently completed an MA in Education at University College London and am currently working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school. I support students in lessons and run GCSE English Literature and Language revision sessions for SEN students. I also support year 7, 8 and 9 students with phonics interventions. September 2025 I will be training as a secondary school English teacher. I'm passionate about building student's confidence in their subject alongside building their subject knowledge. Based on my own experience, I'm keen to help students become more confident in how they perform in exam conditions and maximise the application of their knowledge when under pressure. My favourite thing about working as a tutor is seeing students gradually become more confident in asking questions and the sense of achievement they feel when they have reached a certain target grade or a certificate or award in school. Alongside my English Literature degree, I am a competitive middle-distance athlete and work within the executive team, as VP of Sport, on my college committee at the University of York. I also enjoy my role as a course ambassador, speaking to prospective students and parents at open days about studying English at Undergraduate level and university life in general. While at University, I began teaching English Literature and Language via zoom, primarily to GCSE students, with the hope of tutoring at A-Level too. My sessions are always based on the personal areas that each individual student wishes to focus on, to consolidate or enhance their understanding of the given topic. I am patient and understanding, so promise to support each student at their own pace and be not only a tutor, but also a reassuring support-system to whom they can direct any questions or queries. I hope to guide and support other students in their personal academic goals, through a focus on exam technique, revision methods and coping with the potential stress that may arise during exam season, to help get the best out of each individual. I am a third-year English Literature student at the University of York, where my modules cover an expansive geographical and temporal range from Latin Literature and the Middle Ages, to the Renaissance and 20th Century American Literature. In my A-Levels, I achieved 3x A*s in English Literature, History and Latin. In my GCSEs, I achieved a grade 9 in the following subjects: English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Latin, History, Religious Studies and Computer Science, with an 8 in Chemistry.

I can help with GCSE/Junior Cert/Leaving Cert: Biology & English. I can help with Science/English/Maths primary school. I have worked with people in sessions of learning of all abilities, and of all ages. Some of my general interests are: everything and anything in the natural world, cooking, art, films, do it yourself, creative reuse and much more!
