Hello! My name is Flora and I am a Master’s student at the University of Birmingham. I have great passion for English Literature and Language, as demonstrated by my achievement of A*s in both subjects and a 2:1 BA (hons.) in English Literature. I have been teaching KS3 and GCSE English Language and Literature, and A-Level English Literature, for 3+ years both online and in-person. I am most experienced in teaching GCSE English Language and Literature following the AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas exam boards, and OCR for A-Level Literature. I take pride in how I always adapt my teaching style to my student’s needs, requirements and preferences. Whilst my teaching approaches vary depending on the student, I teach using a combination of visual (posters, mind maps, flashcards), and interactive (brainstorming, discussions) and textual (past papers, worksheets) techniques. A lesson may consist of supporting student with revising exam materials, practising variety of skills from reading comprehension to creative writing or equipping students with tools to help them with their writing abilities. I am happy to provide students with homework, which I can grade and provide feedback on, as well as with a variety of resources crafted by me. Students are welcome to guide their own lessons with their own materials/schoolwork since I can assist them with preparing for their assessments. I aim to make learning fun and engaging for students by incorporating their interests into their lessons whenever possible. I am very enthusiastic about helping student achieve their goals, whether this be pushing their grades up or gaining a better understanding of a component of English. I believe that finding the correct learning technique is the foundation behind accomplishing these goals. I am passionate about teaching and have taught Mathematics as a School and lesson Teacher for over seven years. In my years of teaching Mathematics, I have been able to teach and explain mathematical ideas to my young students by creating a classroom atmosphere that allows them to relate what they have been taught to practical, real-life problems.

Languages: B2 German, English Native Speaker Canadian Highschool Diploma: English 30-1, Math 30-1, Biology 30-1, Chemistry 30-1 Bachelor of Arts in Ministry with a double major in Outdoor Leadership Preferred age group: any I grew up in Canada, but I have recently moved to Germany with my husband where I am learning German, and hoping to study soon. In Canada I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Ministry, with a Major in Outdoor Leadership. I worked in this field for a few years, but eventually found myself drawn to the business and financial side of things in the organization that I worked for. In the future, I would like to pursue education and work in business and finance. My favorite hobby is being active in the outdoors. I enjoy rock climbing, mountain biking, and almost anything else that gets me outside and being active. I also love to relax with a good book on a quite day or evening. My other qualifications are not particularly connected to tutoring. I am certified to teach a number of adventure activities. I am a Top Rope Climbing instructor, certified by the ACMG, I am a level 1 Mountain Bike instructor, certified with PMBIA, OCC Hiking Field Leader, and I also took an 80 wilderness first aid course. These things give a bit of a picture about what I am interested in, and what I have pursued learning about or teaching in my life. Tutoring is new to me, but I do have a lot of experience with teaching and instructing in an outdoor context. I think I can easily apply my outdoor instruction and facilitation skills, to tutoring.
