Hello! I’m Ruby and I currently study English Literature and History at Newcastle University! I’m passionate about Austen and the history of the Romanov Dynasty. I achieved A*A*A at a level and really love my subjects! I’m very understanding when it comes to subjects that we may not like or may struggle with particularly as I myself hated some of my topics and subjects at school so I try to make my lessons as fun as possible and keep my students interested!

Not only have I been given the opportunity to tutor subjects I love, I have also been given the opportunity to share my passion of English and History with students who want to achieve the best exam results they possibly can. English and history have always been subjects I have taken to naturally, achieving A* in Literature and History at A-Level, however, I have really struggled in other subjects where I found it difficult to comprehend the information taught to me. Because of this, I have patience and empathy in teaching areas you may not be 100% assured in and I am able to adapt teaching styles to ensure I deliver information effectively to give the best learning experience possible. I can plan lessons according to what you feel you need to work on, ranging from homework tasks, knowing course content or exam technique. For reference, I studied Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, Jekyll and Hyde and Power and Conflict poetry at GCSE. I studied Othello, Death of a Salesman, Oliver Twist, When Will there be Good News and Tragedy and Crime poetry at A-Level. In History GCSE I studied: Medicine through time, The Cold War, Elizabethan England, Weimar and Nazi Germany, and The Western Front. At A-Level I studied Poverty and Public Health in England, Russia from Lenin to Yeltsin, and the Origins of WW1 for coursework. Sometimes the hardest thing in exams is knowing the answers but struggling to put ideas on paper for fear of it being incorrect. I aim to inspire confidence in everyone I tutor to ensure exam questions can be tackled with assurance and not apprehension. I am not just a tutor, I am a supporter who is rooting for you all the way and I have seen the benefits of a little encouragement going a long way. After university I worked at a secondary school on a graduate scheme with Step Into Teaching, working as a teaching assistant and running the school library. In this role I worked predominantly with KS3 students on a 1:1 and small-group basis, but I love working with KS4 students and building their knowledge in their subjects. In this role I have worked with SEN and ESL students. Shortly after this I went to Malaga, Spain to work as an au pair. While living with a Spanish family it was my repsonsiblity to teach English to two daughters, ages 11 and 14. I then worked as an English tutor in a secondary school through the National Tutoring Programme. In this role I worked with year 10 and year 11 students, helping them progress in GCSE English Literature and GCSE English Language. I have recently completed an MA in Education at University College London and am currently working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school. I support students in lessons and run GCSE English Literature and Language revision sessions for SEN students. I also support year 7, 8 and 9 students with phonics interventions. September 2025 I will be training as a secondary school English teacher. I'm passionate about building student's confidence in their subject alongside building their subject knowledge. Based on my own experience, I'm keen to help students become more confident in how they perform in exam conditions and maximise the application of their knowledge when under pressure. My favourite thing about working as a tutor is seeing students gradually become more confident in asking questions and the sense of achievement they feel when they have reached a certain target grade or a certificate or award in school.
