With every session, I aim to keep topics relatable and enjoyable for my students and also to make them understand why this particular topic is relevant to them. As I believe, this understanding is half of the learning journey that they need to make. Currently, I am pursuing my aspiration of a career in medical research. I am studying Pharmacology at the University of Reading which has enforced the importance of always striving to learn; so I encourage my students to embrace learning. Studying the medical field has highlighted the importance of teaching and learning: in particular explaining concepts in a manner that will enable a deeper understanding. As an individual who enjoys a problem solving challenge, of which I have demonstrated during my many voluntary pursuits, including at a school and at a hospital, I have communicated with a wide range of individuals. So, in establishing a student's needs, I understand the issues they are facing and find solutions to their problems. Guiding a student through revision is no easy task as no student learns in the same format. Presenting the student with ideas and having them put these into practice is what I aim for to prepare them for exams. My favorite subject at school was History, where I particularly enjoyed the process of undertaking extended research around a specific topic in my coursework components. In my spare time, I enjoy watching films and documentaries. As a student myself, I have also frequently watched academic documentaries that I look forward to recommending to students as an excellent way to expand contextual knowledge of a topic outside class in a compelling and enjoyable way! Teaching approach: My teaching approach involves planning and creating detailed lessons materials, synthesizing textbook material into bitesize information for young students to teach them in an enjoyable and interactive environment. Visual aids, practice questions and interactive activities (particularly for young students) are incorporated into each lesson and post-lesson feedback is provided to the parent/student, including all PowerPoint slides and other lesson materials used during the lesson and any homework if preferred. Additionally, academic progress is monitored via an initial key topic list (detailed on the first slide of the PowerPoint slides) which is updated after each lesson, including progress on individual focus areas of improvement for the student. Moreover, if the parent/student prefers, comprehensive reports of academic progress, topics covered and key areas of strength and improvement can be sent every two months. I have a strong belief that one of the first steps in becoming a good performer in Maths and Science at any stage requires confidence first and foremost in your ability that you can succeed at it even, if you are not doing so now. I hope that through this experience you will increase your confidence and love for any subject that you may need help with so that you will excel in it. I understand the struggles students can have with Maths because I once struggled with it. This was until I learnt through meeting some aspirational tutors that no one is inherently bad at Maths, but that they may have had the wrong guidance. I hope that together, we will be the right solution to your mathematical problems. I have always loved(or at least appreciated when times get hard) the importance of Chemistry Biology and Physics. But I know it takes a lot of work and commitment in understanding and applying it. I again hope that even if you don't grow to love it you will still appreciate its importance in the life we live through your studies. In my free time, I enjoy singing in my choir and crocheting. I will do the very best to help you and give you advice that you will be able to apply in many aspects throughout your life and not only at this stage.
