Hi! My name is Lucia Valero and I am a third year Chemical Engineering student at the University of Aberdeen. I have taught Maths from primary to S4 level for a year. I try to keep lessons light and as engaging by possible, always working through examples and really encourage students to think independently as they are often capable of more than they realize. (I am not interested in teaching Spanish at the moment) Spanish is my first language, and I am familiar with the process of learning a second language so I am confident in teaching it. I find that usually reading and conversation are the best ways to learn a language and achieve fluidity but I can adapt to each student's needs. I sat Scottish exams (SQAs) and currently attend the University of Aberdeen for Chemical Engineering. I speak fully fluent English, Spanish and some French. I have around 2 years of tutoring experience I am interested in teaching English as a foreign language not as a subject. I have received French and English tutoring throughout most of my childhood and have given some Spanish tutoring previously, so I have some experience in the area.

I've been informally tutoring for years, helping classmates and younger students since I was in middle school; and it's something I've always enjoyed. In my free time, you can usually find me reading a book, or immersing myself in a new film or tv show. Recent favourites include Abbott Elementary and Heartstopper. I'm also a F1 fan, and religiously watch the races every Sunday. My recent successes with students include assisting an A Levels student change his Economics grade from an E to a B ! I have graduated cum laude from the University of Amsterdam, for a Masters in Law in International and Transnational Criminal Law. I received an Upper Second Class Degree from the University of Exeter Law School; receiving a First Class in modules such as Criminal Justice and Evidence. Currently I am working as a Paralegal.

Preferred student age group: Primary/ GCSE About me: I have just graduated for Durham University with a First Class degree in Geography. At Sixth Form I took the IB where I studied Spanish, biology and geography at a higher level and maths, English and environmental systems and societies at a standard level. All together I achieved 39 IB points. Throughout my studies I have frequently taken part in mentoring schemes, helping me to, not only help other students, but to also further my knowledge in the given subject. After Sixth Form I took a gap year in the hope of travel however COVID prevented me from doing so, so instead I worked in retail whilst reading in preparation for university. I am half Spanish and love to travel; my favourite excursions being the frequent visits to Spain to see my grandparents. My other hobbies include dancing (from the age of 4), going to the gym, crotchet and just generally spending time with my friends and family. University has provided me with a wealth of transferable skills, the most important of which is the ability to learn, teach and communicate remotely. I've discovered that there are numerous advantages to taking online classes, such as the efficiency, flexibility, and variety of lesson styles that can be used. The most important aspect of online teaching is engagement; lessons must be tailored to keep the target audience ’s attention.
