Hello! My name is Isla, and I am a passionate tutor studying Primary Education at the University of Winchester. I have over a year of tutoring experience and have spent time in a student teach role in Primary Schools working with all abilities and SEND. I am also studying SEND as a specialism. My love for teaching stems from a desire to make a positive impact on young lives and help students reach their full potential. I have a comprehensive knowledge in all areas of education, having achieved highly in both GCSEs and A-levels. In addition to my formal education, I have also had the opportunity to gain valuable experience through teaching placement in schools. This has allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge in real-life situations and has helped me to develop a range of effective teaching techniques. I believe that every student can succeed, and it is my goal as a tutor to help each student reach their full potential. Whether a student needs support in a specific subject areas or help with study skills and exam technique, I am committed to providing a supportive and encouraging learning environment. My approach to tutoring is centred around tailoring each session to meet the specific needs of each student as I believe that every student is unique and that a one-size-fits-all approach is not effective. Instead, I work closely with my students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and to develop a customized plan to help them achieve their goals. I am excited to continue my journey as a tutor, making positive impacts on the lives of all my students. I am currently taking on new students on Saturdays for the 24 - 25 school year and beyond. I have completed 10 GCSEs in: English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, History, Drama and Photography, with grades between 6 - 9 with my Science, Maths and English Grades at 8-9 level. I have completed 3 A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths with grades A-C. I am currently studying at University of Winchester and am in my 3rd and Final Year of my Primary Education Bachelor's Degree where I am specialising in Additional Needs. I have also completed additional qualifications in First Aid, Philosophy for Children and a Level 5 LAMDA Award for Acting. I thoroughly enjoy learning and being able to give that joy to my students and have had the incredible opportunity to work within a variety of school settings putting my theory into practice and seeing my students thrive.

Here, I developed key skills which proved extremely useful for their progress e.g., altering my communication to their level of understanding while giving relatable and fun examples, ensuring that the students are actively engaged by asking continuous questions to assess their understanding, and each new lesson I conducted with each student was started with a quick recap of the previous lesson. I noticed that these small steps proved extremely useful in the long run for the child's academic progress. Preferred age group: GCSE (However I can also teach A-level and Primary School children) A bit about myself: I am charismatic and enthusiastic Barts and the London School of Medicine student, with a willingness to learn and grow in any field despite the challenges that may be presented. I consider myself well-rounded, excelling in both academics as well as sport e.g., Football (My favourite!) and have passion for social interaction. Through exposure to tough situations as well as reading books on the topics I have honed my emotional intelligence and communication skills which I have since applied to provide help in various avenues such as education. I've had leadership roles such as Headboy of the school and thus have developed strong rapports with students who look at me as a role-model as well as their parents, especially during information evenings where I had conversations on how "parents could best support their children". As a fluent English and Italian speaker, I've acted as a bridge and advocate for foreign students to make them feel integrated in the community. This has also proved useful when teaching students who's first language isn't English as my fluency in another language allowed my to better understand the students I've worked with. I am a published author who is passionate about writing short stories as means of expressing issues that many children are faced with. One such issue is bullying and I have published a book titled Scars the Bullies and The Bullied which aims to inspire readers to take action against bullying. I will work alongside my students, supporting them along each step of the way so that in the end, they can excel; not solely academically but also in life. I have experience tutoring and preparing students for various examinations in Mathematics and Science. Exams such as, A level Exams, Edexcel entrance exams, GCSE, 11+, and Private School entry exam. Preferred student age group: Primary/ GCSE About me: I have just graduated for Durham University with a First Class degree in Geography. At Sixth Form I took the IB where I studied Spanish, biology and geography at a higher level and maths, English and environmental systems and societies at a standard level. All together I achieved 39 IB points. Throughout my studies I have frequently taken part in mentoring schemes, helping me to, not only help other students, but to also further my knowledge in the given subject. After Sixth Form I took a gap year in the hope of travel however COVID prevented me from doing so, so instead I worked in retail whilst reading in preparation for university. I am half Spanish and love to travel; my favourite excursions being the frequent visits to Spain to see my grandparents. My other hobbies include dancing (from the age of 4), going to the gym, crotchet and just generally spending time with my friends and family. University has provided me with a wealth of transferable skills, the most important of which is the ability to learn, teach and communicate remotely. I've discovered that there are numerous advantages to taking online classes, such as the efficiency, flexibility, and variety of lesson styles that can be used. The most important aspect of online teaching is engagement; lessons must be tailored to keep the target audience ’s attention.
