Hi, I’m Ernan! With over 20 years of math tutoring experience and a Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics, I specialize in helping students at the Lower Level and GCSE stages. My passion for math extends beyond teaching—I’ve applied mathematical principles to game design, making complex concepts engaging and accessible. Fluent in English, I connect well with students from diverse backgrounds, focusing on creating a supportive, dynamic learning environment. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my eight dogs and incorporating my love for music into lessons to make learning fun. Let’s work together to unlock your math potential and make learning exciting! I hold a Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics with a focus on Actuarial Science and have extensive experience in both teaching and practical math applications. Since 2000, I've tutored subjects from primary math to advanced topics like algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and statistics, both in-person and online. My career also includes roles as a Game Mathematician and Slot Designer, where I developed mathematical models for slot games, as well as experience as a Software Engineer and Actuarial Assistant. With certifications in Computational Finance, TEFL, and various Microsoft and Google programs, I bring a broad range of expertise. Let’s work together to make math both engaging and accessible!

I love stories and music. This is why I did an English and Music degree, which I really enjoyed. Reading and writing are such essential and valuable skills, so this, along with my love of stories is why I teach English. I think the Harry Potter books are fantastic. My favourite Shakespeare play is ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, as I love the magic of the forest and the fun of the character Puck. I have also studied Ancient Greek. This proved to be a fascinating language; I found it interesting to learn where so many modern words stem from. I used to run my own drama groups; I believe in the importance of self expression and the confidence that this can bring to people. I have been a tour guide, which was great fun. It was an excellent opportunity to see many interesting sites, whilst meeting many wonderful people. I have worked with a wide range of students over the years and believe in the potential of every individual. In my spare time I enjoy playing the piano. I try to write songs with my partner, who is a much better musician than me. It usually ends up with me writing the lyrics and him writing the music! I also enjoy sailing, writing stories and walking my crazy puppy; she is a mix of sheepdogs, so all she wants to do is round everyone up, including the cat! BA (Hons) Open (English and Music) First-class Honours. A-levels: English and Sociology GCSEs: English Literature and Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Sociology and Music. BTEC Diploma: Music and Drama Take 10 for play (play worker certificate) Current studies: The 1st year of a Maths and Physics BSc with the Open University

I am a graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, and am currently studying for my Masters in Molecular Biology. I have experience in scientific labs, manufacturing labs, and medical offices. I am now working towards my goal of becoming a clinical neuropsychologist where I will do my best to improve the quality of life of everybody I meet. Destigmatizing and helping those who suffer from mental health issues and addiction has long been a passion of mine. This has mostly come from my time volunteering at various mental health facilities, homeless shelters, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. Reading with, tutoring, and just spending time with residents talking is how most of my time is spent at these facilities. I hope to make an impact on students I tutor while also learning everything I can from them. The physical and natural sciences have been my main focus but I maintain a strong interest in learning and teaching history, English (to non-native speakers), psychology, geography, and math.
