GCSE: Biology A-Level: Biology Uni level: Biology, genetics, cancer Exam board exp: None so far Experience with: GCSE (limited), Uni level Languages: English, Arabic Exp with disabilities/special needs: Exp with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Preferred student age group: Any About me: I am academic clinician, originally from Sudan, with a passion for teaching. I used to teach my juniors in university and have continued to do that after I have graduated. I love biology, especially genetics; an interest which I have pursued by completing an MSc in Molecular Medicine in Sudan. During my Molecular Medicine degree, I developed an interest in cancer, so I applied for- and got accepted into an MSc in Cancer Sciences at the University of Glasgow. This turned out to be one of the first decisions I have ever made, as it gave me a solid foundation upon which I am currently building my academic career. I have won a few awards so far, one of which is ‘Best Research Paper’ award, which was in recognition of my outstanding achievement and command of research by the end of my MSc in Molecular Medicine. I have been awarded a few grants and scholarships and have met former president Barak Obama as part of the programme I had on one of the leadership courses I undertook in the US. Currently, I research the use of artificial intelligence in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of colorectal cancer which will greatly impact the quality of care that patients receive. My hobbies are archery and programming using Python, in addition to graphic design, web design and web development.

My name is Monica and I have just graduated from St. Andrews with an MA in history and social anthropology. I always loved history and indeed still do. I choose to study anthropology because my English teacher got rather annoyed at my consistent questions about the characters' lives. "Just go study anthropology then" - and that is what I did. I am have graduated with a further masters with distinction in the history of Scotland and am moving onto a PHD this October. I love being able to combine my two passions in one degree. I try to explain it as anthropology giving an understanding of the present and history of the past. The marriage of the two academic subjects is interesting, indeed. For example, for my dissertation in the School of Anthropology looks at the community in Glasgow in 1592; tracking the influence of the Reformation at a local freedom. School exams definitely prepare you well for university expectations! There were some things that stood out for me at school as helping. I think you have to look after yourself as well as sticking to a study plan, definitely schedule breaks as well as something nice every now and again. I also think essay plans are key for the arts and english examinations and that is something I would be keen to help students create. Ultimately you need to understand the content, not merely recite a list of facts, once you do it is far easier to remember and argue your point in an exam.
