Medicine is a rapidly changing field which requires an acknowledgment of life-long learning. During my studies of GCSE and A levels for chemistry and biology , my competence for scientific thinking has improved and has tied in with my ambitions and motivations to be a Doctor. This has broadened my method of approach to learning and has allowed me to use multiple ways in different situations to solidify my knowledge and understanding. This has proved extremely effective as it has enabled me to secure a place in a Russel group Medical School. One of these ways was realising that one of the best methods to test and improve my learning was to embrace teaching as a form of revision including teaching my peers various parts of the specification. This enhanced my appreciation for teaching and gave me the courage to become a tutor. Each individual is different, so in order to ensure the students I tutor can achieve their best, it is important for me to implement multiple methods of teaching as well as ways of revising. This will provide the students with a more personal way of teaching compared to something they may receive at school which may not be as tailored to their way of thinking and learning. Some methods includes mini-quizzing, simplified diagrams, question and process walkthroughs, and a balance of small visual, verbal , and audible cues which can make a huge difference to learning. Learning needs to be active and intuitive, so a variety of ways to learn is imperative. Maths and Science prevalently were my favourite subjects in school to learn as they had consistent logic which when understood was very rewarding. However despite enjoying the subjects, they can be equally as frustrating and require persistence. Appreciating the challenges and conceptual difficulties especially in Science and maths, helped developed my appreciation for different ways of effectively learning being required which helped me achieve all 8's and 9's in science and maths at GCSE and A's and A* at A level. Ultimately I believe being able to personally implement a range of methods to improve my own results will translate very well in my teachings to help students to also improve.

Hello, I'm Susan and I tutor chemistry and maths up to GCSE level. I am currently a second-year chemical engineering student. I studied chemistry, physics and maths at a level before taking a gap year. When I'm not buried in uni work, you’d probably find me reading a book, playing some netball or trying to pick up a new hobby. I am currently a second year Chemical Engineering student. At a level I studied Chemistry (AQA), Physics (AQA) and Maths (Edexcel).I have a good understanding of both maths and chemistry and have had informal experience tutoring younger students during chemistry and maths drop in sessions.

My favorite subject at school was History, where I particularly enjoyed the process of undertaking extended research around a specific topic in my coursework components. In my spare time, I enjoy watching films and documentaries. As a student myself, I have also frequently watched academic documentaries that I look forward to recommending to students as an excellent way to expand contextual knowledge of a topic outside class in a compelling and enjoyable way! Teaching approach: My teaching approach involves planning and creating detailed lessons materials, synthesizing textbook material into bitesize information for young students to teach them in an enjoyable and interactive environment. Visual aids, practice questions and interactive activities (particularly for young students) are incorporated into each lesson and post-lesson feedback is provided to the parent/student, including all PowerPoint slides and other lesson materials used during the lesson and any homework if preferred. Additionally, academic progress is monitored via an initial key topic list (detailed on the first slide of the PowerPoint slides) which is updated after each lesson, including progress on individual focus areas of improvement for the student. Moreover, if the parent/student prefers, comprehensive reports of academic progress, topics covered and key areas of strength and improvement can be sent every two months. Tutoring experience - Tutor since September 2022 (taught 500+ lessons) with experience tutoring 43 students including 22 primary students (inc.
