About me

Hi! I'm Venus, a final-year medical student and part-time tutor. I have a passion for teaching and have been tutoring for over 4 years now. I try to have an open and friendly classroom where my students can learn whilst being themselves and look forward to their teaching sessions. Here are some testimonials from previous students: "I honestly couldn’t have gotten my grade 9s without Venus! She made everything so much easier to understand and was super patient when I didn’t get something right away. The sessions never felt stressful because she always created such a friendly, relaxed environment, so I didn’t feel embarrassed asking questions. They really helped boost my confidence, and I always felt like I could actually get through even the hardest topics. I’m so thankful for their supp...

Levels and Subjects: Lower Level: Maths, English, French GCSE: English, French A-Level/IB: English, French Exam Board Experience: AQA, Edexcel, 11+, WJEC Languages: English (native), French (fluent) SEND Experience: Worked with students with complex needs in a sixth form college, including students with Autism, ADHD, Tourette's syndrome, dyslexia, anxiety, and other sensory needs Preferred age group: GCSE and A-Level, however am happy to work with Primary as well. About me: I'm a recent university graduate trying to find my place in the world. I have worked in a sixth form college where I cultivated my love for teaching and learning, as well as supporting young people in complex situations thorugh their education. I know what it's like to be an outsider; I'm neurodivergent and I lived in France for six months as a part of my degree. I want to help others who feel as though they don't fit in to have success and joy in what they do. I have a ton of hobbies, more than I can really keep up with, including: creative writing, reading, crochet, video gaming, dungeons and dragons, digital art, video editing, singing - and these are just the ones I'm focusing on at the moment! In school I was always an active member of the student voice community, and this continued into university where I was the academic president for Modern Languages and Linguistics and ACIS (for international students). I worked hard to ensure that my colleagues had the support that they needed to succeed. I was also on the committee for the creative writing society, which brought me a lot of joy throughout my time at university. I am looking to eventually get a teaching qualification, as I would love to be able to support learners throughout my life.

I have a very creative method of teaching and like to include games and make it fun and stimulating. I have a lot of experience working with children on the spectrum and ADHD so can manage meltdowns and difficulties in learning. Teaching styles will be catered towards their way of learning (eg visual, oral, kinetic). I studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics A-level. I then went on to study Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University. I have about 10 years experience in tutoring. Since I was 15, I have been teaching primary level and then after that went to teach secondary level. I teach English, Irish and Scottish Curriculum.

I am currently on a gap year following my A Levels, and am studying Physics at university next school year. I am currently looking to take on students for lessons over the summer and for the next academic year. At A Level I achieved 3 A*s in Physics, Mathematics, and History, and I also achieved a grade 9 in Physics at GCSE level. My sessions are tailored towards GCSE Physics students, and are aimed at improving exam performance while also improving the student's understanding of the subject beyond simply memorising equations. I understand that every student's goals are different, and my lessons reflect this - if one method of teaching is not proving effective for a student I am able to adapt my lessons to be structured in a way that resonates with them specifically. My lessons are applicable to every GCSE exam board, but I have the most experience with the AQA specification. At A Level, I attained 3 A*s in Physics, Mathematics, and History. At GCSE I achieved a grade 9 in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, and English Language. I achieved a grade 8 in Chemistry, Biology, English Literature, and History, and a grade 6 in Spanish. Additionally, I accomplished the highest total score in my sixth form for A Level Physics.
