The GoStudent Future of Education Report 2024

In our annual deep dive into the future of education, we have surveyed more than 5,581 parents or guardians, and their children, as well as teachers across Europe. The trends are clear: from updating the curriculum to include more life and practical skills, to shifting into a more hybrid teaching approach, children, parents and teachers are demanding a new era of education. But due to worsening teacher shortages and a significant technology gap, schools are not yet equipped to usher it in.

Key findings from the report

AI takes centre stage in education transformation
Children in the UK rank learning about technology development, including AI, VR & AR, as their top priority to prepare for the future.
53% of parents in the UK acknowledge that AI is a highly effective educational tool, but are less enthusiastic than the European average (60%).
80% of children in the UK feel increasingly confident about living in a world surrounded by new technologies, increasing from 74% in 2023 and above the European average (77%).

A note from Felix Ohswald

Until recently, education had barely changed for centuries. But in the past few years, global events have propelled it into an entirely new era. As an advocate for technology-enabled education, I’m excited by the progress I’ve already seen, and the new opportunities each advancement unlocks.
Our Future of Education Report shows children want to learn about topics that prepare them for the future, including AI and VR, and express frustration that this is not immediately available to them. The demand for a more personalised education is getting stronger. Children know what methods suit them best, and combining online and offline, in-person and digital methods will enable children to learn without limits. It takes a village to raise a child, and governments, parents, teachers and education companies all play a vital role in shaping the future of education. Only by listening to the next generation and pulling together in a collective effort can we guide them towards the future they deserve.
